2018 Picnic HOA Meeting Summary

Attendence:

  • Sign-in sheet: 34
  • Ballots cast: 24
  • Vasa Park charged us $335.50 for attendance fees
    • Adults: 60 at $4.50 each: $270
    • Children 14 (6-14 years of age) at $2.50 each: $35
    • Tax: $30.50
    • Total: $335.50

Meat consumed:

  • 35 lbs beef brisket
  • 7 lbs chicken tenderloins
  • 20 hot dogs

Things that worked well:

  • Vasa Park is still appealing
  • 4:15 set-up allowed us to finish all the brisket and let it rest. Aluminum foil helped keep uncut brisket warm.
  • Beef brisket sous-vide: smoked for 4 hours; sous vide 30 hours at 155ยบ F
  • Hot dogs
  • 10 gallon propane tank was more than adequate.
  • Starting HOA meeting at 6:20 got a lot more residents than starting at 6:00
  • Paper ballots for election of officers
  • Putting microphone + speaker in the lengthwise center, so residents could look to their side
  • Placing the grill so it's downwind of the seating area
  • Someone supplied a case of boxed juices for kids, which got consumed. Water was OK.
  • Homemade BBQ sauce was a hit
  • Mayuri (supplied by resident Chandra Bhaskara) was a hit, even though it arrived late (7 PM).
  • Asking the Board nominees to introduce themselves
  • Asking residents for input actually brought up some interesting points:
    • Sound wall approved for 41.5, due to extension of Eastgate exit ramp
    • Questions about the incident at Sunset that resulted in knife injuries to one man

Things that didn't work as well:

  • 5:30 start was sparse in attendance. Could have been at 6 PM instead.
  • Gas grill could have been half the size (4 burner), which runs $75 instead of $110. Would have been easier to transport also.
  • Need to bring a fire extinguisher next year! Flames from the brisket fat reached the rafters of the shelter.
  • Chicken tenders fell apart on the grill. They fell apart when separating, so chicken breasts might have been a better choice. No grill time really needed.
  • Fat from the brisket should have been trimmed more before serving
  • Onions and sauerkraut looked untouched for hotdog condiments
  • Store bought BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup, little of this was used
  • No one took a copy of the Treasurer report and no one asked a detailed break down of how we spent the money
